As a subcontractor of our strategic partner, Siemens Mobility Management, Astron Informatics Ltd. has successfully participated in upgrading Stockholm’s metro line 1, the green line. The project started two years ago, and our main task was to upgrade the software of the Control System of the oldest metro line in the Swedish capitol.

The Stockholm metro system was opened in 1950. Today it has 100 stations in use, of which 47 are underground and 53 aboveground. It serves the most populous city in the Nordic region with almost 1,6 million people living in the greater Stockholm area. According to the annual reports, the city’s metro systems carries approximately 320 million passengers a year, and there are around 900 000 rides each day.

There are three lines, of which the oldest one is the so called green line. Together with Siemens Mobility Management, our aim was to introduce Siemens’s newest software solutions and upgrade the Control System of the metro line. In order to do that, Astron’s task was to port all the old functionalities and engineering data to these new solutions and implement some enhancements to the system during the HW and SW upgrade project.

It was also crucial for us to train the dispatchers responsible for the daily operation of the system, and make sure they have all the necessary knowledge about the new solutions to exploit its benefits. After two years of hard work, our engineers and IT professionals have successfully completed the Stockholm upgrade project.
