Network Training Simulator (NTS)

Prepare operators for complex grid operations — safely, realistically, and effectively.

Realistic Training for Power Grid Operators

The Network Training Simulator (NTS) is an advanced, event-driven training platform developed by Astron Informatics for electricity network operators. It provides a realistic control-room environment where operators can practice daily operations and emergency response using the same logic and interfaces as real grid operation.

NTS supports transmission and distribution systems across all voltage levels and scales from individual substations to complete power networks.

Why chose our Network Training Simulator?

Modern power systems demand highly prepared operators.
Our NTS helps utilities and system operators to:

Train safely without impacting live infrastructure

Prepare for rare and high-impact events

Standardize operational knowledge across teams and control centers

Improve confidence and decision-making under pressure

By integrating NTS into regular training programs, operators also benefit from faster onboarding and
positive impact on reliability indicators such as SAIDI, SAIFI, and CAIDI.

    Key Capabilities

These capabilities ensure realistic, operator-grade training aligned with real-world grid operation.
The following capabilities form the technical core of the Network Training Simulator:

The simulator is event driven and can simulate the power grid with millisecond resolution.

The network elements are modeled individually, including switches, protection devices and automation functions.

The simulator performs power flow and voltage calculations and produces realistic network states.

Topology based interlocking ensures that incorrect switching operations are prevented.

The simulator is connected to the SCADA system using standard IEC communication protocols.

The simulator can model networks of any size, from microgrids to complete transmission and distribution systems.

Faults and malfunctions can be defined and triggered by the instructor during training.

Simulation speed can be modified, allowing fast-forward or slow-motion analysis of events.

All signals, states and measurements are archived and can be replayed for evaluation and training analysis.

The operator interface fully replicates the real SCADA environment, providing a realistic control room experience.
