          Network Training Simulator

          Astron’s Network Training Simulator (NTS) is an advanced, event-driven tool designed to enhance the skills of Regional Dispatcher Center (RDC) operators. In addition to calculating network power flows and voltage conditions, NTS models the technological elements of high and medium voltage networks, including switches, protection systems, and automation. It allows for the simulation of both single faults and large-scale network disturbances, providing a realistic training environment.

          NTS has been used for over 15 years by multiple Hungarian RDCs and the Hungarian Transmission System Operator (TSO) to train dispatchers. Its implementation has shortened the training time for new dispatchers and helped experienced professionals maintain their skill levels. Well-trained dispatchers make faster, more informed decisions, improving KPIs such as SAIDI and significantly reducing the risk of equipment damage.

          AI-Powered Load Forecasting Solution

          We develop AI-driven load forecasting solutions to help DSOs (Distribution System Operators) operate modern power grids. As renewable energy sources like solar power introduce stochastic production fluctuations, traditional grid management methods are no longer sufficient. By leveraging machine learning and neural networks, our solutions provide accurate short-term load and production forecasting, helping DSOs operate the network optimally and efficiently.

          We developed a load forecasting solution for a Hungarian DSO operator to manage fluctuations in solar energy production. By utilizing machine learning and neural networks, the system provides accurate short-term predictions, enhancing reliable and efficient network operation as renewable energy proportion continues to rise.

          AI-Powered Grid Optimization

          We developed an AI-powered solution to ensure the reliable operation of the distribution network as the share of renewable energy sources, such as solar power, continues to grow. These variable energy sources can sometimes lead to overloads and voltage violations. To address these challenges, Distribution System Operators (DSOs) need to utilize the distribution network more efficiently and flexibly. This flexibility is provided by Flexibility Service Providers (FSPs), who can adjust their energy consumption or generation in real-time. Our solution detects network issues and calculates the optimal adjustments for FSPs. The optimization takes both technical and commercial factors into account to minimize the cost of FSP regulation for the DSO.

          The solution employs a genetic algorithm, inspired by natural selection, where a specialized fitness function evaluates potential solutions to identify the best one, assisting the DSO dispatcher in managing the network effectively. The final decision is always made by the dispatcher.
