#1 AHa – the first Astron Hackathon

On December 15, the last Saturday working day of the year, teams of software developers from Astron Informatikai Kft. competed in a hackathon.

The challenge of the all-day programming competition was development in an Amazon WS (AWS) environment using prescribed AWS services, implementing slackbot, and using the Tempo API. Five teams competed in the event. When assembling the teams, they kept in mind that every team should have a specialist with knowledge of AWS. In the competition, a slackbot had to be created on various topics, for which 8 hours were available. As a final test, the teams presented the implemented application. In addition to the presentation of the working application, some also presented and analyzed the written code upon special request, thus introducing the participants to the mysteries of the CaI/CD application of CloudFormation, CodeCommit and CodePipeline, while others also held a Power Point presentation. The members of the teams that finished on the podium received an Amazon Alexa virtual assistant in recognition of their performance.

“This was the first Astron Hackathon and we were pleased to see that everyone expressed their satisfaction with the event after the competition. Getting to know unknown technologies, which are considered the biggest challenge for many, was the biggest benefit of the event, so we are planning similar in-company tests in the future as well.” – said Dr. Attila Kovács, managing director of Astron Informatics Ltd.
